I recently received the greatest compliment a writer can get. A woman emailed me to tell me she was reading my book. This is a wonderful compliment, but it’s not the best part. The best part was when she told me that it was two o’clock in the morning and she couldn’t put the book down. Wow!

That may not sound like a big deal to a who-done-it or fiction-thriller writer, but to a nonfiction self-help writer, it’s a big deal. It means that I have connected with her and that she has found some hope in the pages. Being attracted to the wrong men can be a very painful and lonely experience. To know that you are not alone brings great comfort.
While I was going crazy during those long lonely nights, I wondered if I was alone. It seemed like everyone around me had found the key to happiness, but that I had somehow missed the lecture that day. I must have overslept on the day God passed out the happily-ever-after instructions. I soon learned that there were many of us who felt this way. But since we didn’t like to talk about it we didn’t know about each other. We are definitely not alone.
The reader concluded her email with We have chosen your book for my book club group. Now that is too cool. I believe there is no greater compliment you can give a writer than the one she gave me. As a writer, I spent many days alone hammering away at my computer keyboard. While I typed, visions would pop into my head. One of the visions I had was the thought that women would work through the book together. This was the ideal situation where they would provide love and support to each other. They could shed their painful obsession and support each other as they discover a healthy life of their heart’s desire. That’s why I wrote the book.
